How do Farm Classes Work?
80% of the Agricultural Educations Courses taught at Lincoln High School are taught at our off-site school farm. Students in a Farm class are bussed from Lincoln High School to the Farm each day for classes. This bus ride is roughly 15 minutes each way. All farm classes, with the exception of the welding classes, are combination courses. This means that students taking 1 class, must also take it's partnered class. Below is the list of paired classes;
Welding 1 and Welding 2 are single period classes, and bus to and from the farm at the beginning and end of each period.
- Ag Biology & Intro to Agriculture
- Ag Chemistry & Animal Science
- Ag Systems Management (ASM) & Veterinary Science
- Advanced Ag Welding and Metal Fabrication & Advanced Ag Mechanics

What is FFA?
FFA is the Nation's premier youth-led leadership program. The FFA organization is an intra-curricular club that is apart of all Agricultural Education classes at Lincoln High School. For more detailed information on the FFA, please view the different parts of the website under the "FFA" Tab.
Why do I get graded on FFA Activities?
Per California Department of Education Code 52454; Agriculture programs are allowed to assign grade points for participation in FFA activities and for having and maintaining an approved Supervised Agricultural Experience project. Agriculture Education revolves around the 3-Circle model, which says that for a student to get the most out of their time in our program, they need to equally engage in the FFA and have an SAE, it is not simply just about the classroom! To incentivize and reward participation, we assign a grade in these categories in each agricultural education class, as do most agriculture programs in the state of California. Ag Teachers make every available effort to inform all students on upcoming opportunities to earn activity points, but our google calendar (on the home page of this website) is also a valuable tool.
How do I get activity points?Activity points are earned every time you participate in an FFA Activity. For all Ag Classes, you need 5 activity points per semester. Most activities are worth 1 point, such as going to an FFA meeting, purchasing FFA Apparel, and most other chapter activities. Some activities are worth multiple points, such as being on a CDE/LDE team, showing an animal at the Fair, going to a conference, and more.
FFA Activity points are calculated and tracked through the AET, an online record keeping system that all FFA Chapters in California utilize. The AET is primarily used to track progress of a student's SAE project, but we also use it to track classroom learning, and FFA Activity points. The Point Award System Chart to the right is a general outline of how points are assigned based on the activity. This chart is not an exact science, but it is the general guide that the Lincoln FFA Advisor uses to determine how many Activity Points an activity is worth. If you ever have questions about the way these points are assigned, reach out to your Ag Teacher! |
